  • DESCRIPTION

  • How do I get there

The castle-fortress from Turnu Roşu was built in the 14th century, to protect the entrance into Transylvania. The fortified medieval construction is made up of a central tower in Roman style, coloured in red, symbolizing the blood of the enemies, which was spilt here. For centuries, the fortress changed its function: from a military site, to customs point, espionage centre against the Turkish armies, and even a trial centre. Currently, it hosts a senior home. The building will particularly draw your attention every time you go through Olt Valley (Valea Oltului).
