Dear hikers,
Poiana Godea is an incredibly picturesque location in the Mărginimea Sibiului area, near the former Fântânele Cabin. Our hike begins in the morning at 9:30 AM in the parking lot at Entrance B of Sibiu Zoo. Around 10:30 AM, we will regroup in the center of the Sibiel village, near the Cultural Center, from where we will drive to the outskirts of the village, upstream along the Sibiel River. We will park near Sibiel Monastery and start our hike along the forest road starting at the monastery entrance.
We’ll follow the blue triangle trail marker, and after about an hour of gentle uphill hiking, we’ll take a short hydration break in a clearing before continuing along a dirt road veering left. After approximately 30 minutes of more sustained ascent, we will reach Poiana Godea, located at about 1000 meters altitude. Here, we’ll admire the summer huts of Sibiel villagers, historically used during summer for grazing animals and haymaking.
After a brief stop near the Creation House in Poiana Godea, part of the Astra Library, we will continue on the blue triangle trail towards the former Fântânele Cabin, emerging into a large meadow with a spectacular panorama of the Cindrel Mountains. We’ll pause here for more stories about the “Frumoasa” protected European area, which spans three mountain ranges: Cindrel, Șureanu, and Lotru. From this point, we’ll descend on the same trail back to Poiana Godea. Depending on the participants’ general condition, we can either return via the same path we took on the way up or take an alternate trail along the Cetății Stream Valley, leading back to the entrance of Sibiel village.
We’ll also have small Christmas gifts for the children participating in this hike!
