Dear hikers,
This is a very easy-level hike – we will walk only along the Olt River to observe the waterbirds wintering in Sibiu County. The hike will take place in a protected area dedicated to the conservation of these birds, known as the Natura 2000 site Avrig – Scorei – Făgăraș. Our chosen destination is the reservoir lake on the Olt River near Avrig.
We will meet in the morning at 9:30 AM in the parking lot of Mall Șelimbăr, in front of the Hervis store. After a brief presentation of the day’s program, we will head by car to the village of Săcădate, where we will regroup after the dam on the Olt River near this locality.
We will start walking along the road that follows the Olt River downstream of the dam. We will observe common waterbirds (mallards, coots, cormorants) as well as some rare bird species that winter in this area (such as mergansers, divers, and smews), both with the naked eye and with the help of a spotting scope. Here, we will also discuss two other protected areas visible from this spot: the Natura 2000 site Piemontul Făgăraș (for the protection of certain forest bird species) and the Natura 2000 site Munții Făgăraș, which preserves forest habitats, mountain meadows, and many animal species, including large carnivores.
We will admire the Făgăraș Mountains panorama and talk about the wild waterbirds wintering on the reservoir lakes around Sibiu. The guide will share fascinating insights into the world of birds, both those that winter in our country and those that will soon arrive at the Olt River lakes for nesting in this area.
At the end of the hike, we will light a fire and roast delicacies in the embers, brought by the guide. Participants are welcome to bring their own treats that can be cooked over the fire!

20 lei – children/young people aged 6 to 18
The hike will take place with a minimum of 6 paying adult participants!
Children must be accompanied by an adult!

– The route configuration and length will be adjusted according to weather conditions and the homogeneity/heterogeneity of the group.
– The organizer (guide) reserves the right to refuse participants who are not appropriately equipped or who have inadequate physical condition.
– Tours are conducted under safe conditions and with a minimum number of participants. The organizer reserves the right to reschedule or cancel tours without prior notice if these conditions are not met.
– Ticket refunds are only provided in case the organizer (guide) cancels the hike.
