Dear Hikers,
The family hike for observing the autumn migration of water birds will take place in a protected area dedicated to safeguarding water birds, known as the Natura 2000 site Avrig – Scorei – Făgăraș. Our destination for this hike is the Scorei reservoir on the Olt River.
During our bird-watching hike, we will be accompanied by a bird specialist (ornithologist) from Sibiu. We will walk along the path that follows the dam of the Scorei reservoir.
We will observe water birds at the Scorei reservoir, both with the naked eye and with the help of a telescope provided by the ornithologist. Here, we will also discuss two other protected areas visible from this location: the Natura 2000 site Piemontul Făgăraș (for the protection of certain forest bird species) and the Natura 2000 site Munții Făgăraș, which safeguards forest habitats, mountain meadows, and many animal species, including large carnivores. We will admire the panorama of the Făgăraș Mountains and talk about the wild water birds that have nested on the reservoirs around Sibiu and are now starting their autumn migration to southern regions. The ornithologist accompanying us will share interesting facts about the bird species that nest in our country as well as those that will come to the Olt River lakes to spend the winter here.
WHERE AND WHEN DO WE MEET?
We will meet in the morning at 9:30 AM in the parking lot of Mall Șelimbăr, in front of the Hervis store. After a brief introduction to the day’s program, we will head by car to the village of Cârța, where we will make our first stop in front of the Cistercian Abbey, to talk about these French monks who came to this area of the Hungarian kingdom in the 12th century.

Hikers who wish to join but cannot travel to Scorei by personal car can contact the hike guide (Mihai Proca – 0720003332) to check for available seats in other participants’ cars.
The hike is very easy, suitable for people of all ages, including children aged 6 and up.

Water/tea bottle, minimum 1 liter
Snack for a break halfway through the trail
Hat and sunscreen
Binoculars of any size are welcome!
COSTS
70 lei/adult participant
20 lei – children/youngsters aged 6 to 18
The hike will take place with a minimum of 10 paying adult participants!
Children must be accompanied by an adult!

– The route configuration and length will be adjusted according to weather conditions and the homogeneity/heterogeneity of the group.
– The organizer (guide) reserves the right to refuse participants who are not appropriately equipped or who have inadequate physical condition.
– Tours are conducted under safe conditions and with a minimum number of participants. The organizer reserves the right to reschedule or cancel tours without prior notice if these conditions are not met.
– Ticket refunds are only provided in case the organizer (guide) cancels the hike.
