Dear Hikers,
Our autumn hike will start from the village of Rășinari, where we will arrive in our personal vehicles. We’ll meet in the morning at 9:30 in the parking lot of Jacobs Restaurant, near the exit to Rășinari (next to Sibiu Zoo). After a brief overview of the day’s itinerary, we’ll drive together to Rășinari, where we’ll park in the village center.
The hike begins on paved roads winding through the village streets, after which we’ll start our ascent up Coasta Boacii, offering beautiful views of Rășinari. The path is initially steep, but it soon levels out, allowing us to walk along a steady contour line for a significant portion of the hike. After emerging from the forest, we’ll reach the shepherds’ cabins above the village, followed by a short climb to the peak of Fraga, where we’ll enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding ridges. We’ll then descend to a saddle before a final ascent to our destination, Nea Ion’s cabin. For the return, we’ll cross Plaiul Peak and follow the country road down to Valea Caselor, leading us back to the center of Rășinari.
During the hike, we’ll discuss the pastoral traditions of Rășinari residents, who maintain cabins and pastures in this high-altitude area of Mărginimea Sibiului. We’ll also learn about the nearby protected area, Natura 2000 Frumoasa, established to safeguard rare forest bird species, forest habitats, mountain meadows, and a variety of wildlife, including large carnivores.
The stunning landscapes throughout make this hike unmissable!
