Dear hikers,
We will meet on Sunday morning and, after a short presentation of the day’s program, we will group into cars and head toward the village of Richiș.
The route we will follow starts in front of the fortified church in Richiș, which we will visit at the beginning of the hike. This church, built by Cistercian monks in the second half of the 14th century, is known for the Green Men hidden beneath its arches. Their story is extremely interesting and you will hear it from the tour guide. After visiting the Cistercian church, we will follow the signs of the Via Transilvanica along the village streets toward Biertan. Leaving Richiș, we climb left along a country road toward the ridge that leads us north. We follow the trail marked with the letter T, staying above the terraces on the hillsides that were once cultivated by the Saxons with vineyards. The wine from the Târnava region produced here was said to be so famous that it was served even at the official tables of the Austrian emperor. Richiș is one of the Saxon villages located within the protected area Natura 2000 Sighișoara – Târnava Mare. Therefore, during our hike we will observe and talk about the plants, insects, mammals, and birds that led environmental authorities to declare protected areas of European interest in this region.
After about two hours we will reach Biertan, where we will visit the fortified church, declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, which served for three centuries as the episcopal seat of the Evangelical Church in Transylvania. The stories of this church, more than 500 years old, are impressive, so we will spend about an hour here. We set off again and, leaving Biertan, we begin climbing on a trail marked with a yellow dot that follows the ridge of the hill parallel to the one we came along in the morning. The trail leads us through oak forests, open meadows, and wild landscapes back toward the village of Richiș.
On the way back we will make a stop where participants will taste a delicious apple pie prepared according to an old Saxon recipe!!!

Elevation gain: 300 m
Trail difficulty: easy – medium
Hike duration: approximately 5 – 6 hours.
Tourists who would like to join the hike but cannot travel to Richiș can call the guide (Mihai Proca – 0720003332) to check if there are available seats in other participants’ cars.
The hike is suitable for people with a minimum level of physical fitness and children aged 8 and above.
For those who cannot complete the entire 17 km route, we will leave a few cars in Biertan (the halfway point of our hike), allowing them to finish earlier.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Water/tea bottle, minimum 1 l.;
Snack for a break halfway along the route;
Cap and sunscreen;
Insect repellent spray.
COSTS
80 RON/adult participant.
20 RON – children/youth between 8 and 16 years old
The hike will take place with a minimum of 10 paying adult participants. Children will participate accompanied by an adult.

Note:
– The route configuration and length will be adjusted according to weather conditions and the homogeneity/heterogeneity of the group.
– The organizer (guide) reserves the right to refuse participants who are not appropriately equipped or who have inadequate physical condition.
– Tours are conducted under safe conditions and with a minimum number of participants. The organizer reserves the right to reschedule or cancel tours without prior notice if these conditions are not met.
– Ticket refunds are only provided in case the organizer (guide) cancels the hike.
