Dear hikers,
We’ll meet in the morning at 10:00 in front of the Evangelical Church in the Gușterița neighborhood. We’ll set off on our bikes heading north, following the road towards the Gușterița Hill Dog Shelter for about a kilometer. At one point, the main road to the Dog Shelter makes a sharp right turn over a stream. We will leave the main road and continue straight on a secondary path heading northeast. The gravel road is only slightly uphill, making for a pleasant ride. We’ll enter the green area at the base of Gușterița Hill, passing by a few animal farms, surrounded by increasingly wild nature on all sides.
We’ll reach an earthen bank where we’ll observe the nests of colorful bee-eaters, which have already begun their autumn migration to central Africa. We’ll continue on a country road that gently ascends through a meadow dotted with wild sloe bushes. We’ll take a short break at an animal watering trough, from where we’ll catch a glimpse of some peaks in the Lotru Mountains. Moving forward, we’ll soon enter a mixed forest of oak, hornbeam, and other tree species. From the hilltop, we’ll descend about 100 meters to enjoy a view overlooking the village of Hamba. After a brief storytelling break, we’ll continue westward through the forest and, after a few manageable slopes, we’ll emerge into another meadow with a wide view of the Lotru and Cindrel Mountains.
The trail runs alongside the apple orchard fence from Șura Mare, then makes a sharp turn south, descending beautifully along a pasture. We’ll come out again on the dirt road that led us to the bee-eater colony, and from here, we’ll continue downhill until we return to the Gușterița neighborhood in Sibiu.
This tour is easy and suitable for people with minimal physical condition and children aged 6 and above, who have prior experience with bike tours!
