How many birds can we recognise during a single hike? How can we tell them apart by their songs, and what can we discover when we learn to observe nature more carefully?
On the third day of the Anii Drumeției Summer School, the trail becomes a true place of exploration. Together with guide Mihai Proca, we set off on a hike dedicated to birds, the forest and games through which children can learn to discover nature.
We will start from Gușterița and climb towards the old farm on the hill, where we will make our first stop for a birdwatching session. With the help of binoculars, we will try to identify the birds in the area and observe the bee-eater nests in the clay wall near the farm. At this time of year, the bee-eaters may have already begun their long autumn migration towards Africa, offering a good opportunity to learn more about the remarkable journey of these birds.
We continue through pastures and then through the oak, hornbeam and linden forest, where we will listen to woodland birds and learn how species can also be identified by their songs, with the help of specialised apps. Along the route, we will also stop to admire the panoramas towards the Lotru and Cindrel Mountains.
Above the village of Hamba, we will take our lunch break, and the stories about nature will be complemented by exploration and observation games. Because at the Summer School, we do not learn from desks, but by looking, listening and discovering what is happening around us.
WHERE AND WHEN DO WE MEET?
