Dear hikers,
Our beginning-of-the-year hike will take place in Catrina Forest, located between Rășinari and Cisnădioara, which we will reach using our personal cars. We will meet in the morning at 10:00 in the parking lot of the Jacobs restaurant, at the exit toward Rășinari (near the Sibiu Zoo). After a short presentation of the day’s program, we will drive to the village of Cisnădioara. Where the asphalt road enters the forest, we will park our cars and start the hike on foot.
We will walk along the paths of Catrina Forest, first on a forest road, then soon entering less-traveled trails where we will have the opportunity to observe and talk about the natural treasures specific to the oak hill forest. The route is not difficult and can be easily completed by participants of all ages. We will exit Catrina Forest and reach the pastures and orchards above the village of Rășinari. From here, we will enjoy beautiful views over both Rășinari and Cisnădioara.
Here we will take a break, during which the guide will share some basic wilderness survival notions, including how to make a fire where we will grill sausages on wooden skewers.
We will return through Catrina Forest as well, but on a different forest road that will lead us back to the cars parked at the forest entrance.
During the hike, we will talk about the pastoral traditions of the people from Mărginimea Sibiului and the economic relations they had with the Saxons from Cisnădioara and Cisnădie. We will also discuss the closest protected area to our location, namely the Natura 2000 Frumoasa site, designated for the protection of rare forest bird species, forest habitats, mountain meadows, and many animal species, including large carnivores.
WHERE AND WHEN DO WE MEET?
We will meet in the morning, on 18.01.26, at 10:00, in the parking lot of the Jacobs restaurant, at the exit toward Rășinari (near the Sibiu Zoo).
ROUTE INFORMATION
– Distance: 6 km
– Elevation gain: 100 meters
– Trail difficulty: easy
– Duration: approximately 3-4 hours
– Participants who wish to join the hike but do not have the possibility to travel to Catrina Forest by personal car may call the guide (Mihai Proca – 0720003332) to check if there are available seats in other participants’ cars.
– The hike is easy in difficulty, suitable for people of all ages, as well as children aged 6 and above.
– No special technical mountain equipment is required for this hike.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
– Water bottle or tea, minimum 1 liter
– Snack for a break halfway along the route
– Season-appropriate clothing
COSTS
80 lei per adult participant
20 lei for children/young people aged between 6 and 18
The hike will take place with a minimum of 6 paying adult participants.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

– The route configuration and length will be adjusted according to weather conditions and the homogeneity/heterogeneity of the group.
– The organizer (guide) reserves the right to refuse participants who are not appropriately equipped or who have inadequate physical condition.
– Tours are conducted under safe conditions and with a minimum number of participants. The organizer reserves the right to reschedule or cancel tours without prior notice if these conditions are not met.
– Ticket refunds are only provided in case the organizer (guide) cancels the hike.
