Dear hikers,
We invite you on a heartfelt trail in the heart of Mărginimea Sibiului, a perfect loop to capture the last warm colors of the season: the Sibiel – Fântânele Cabin – Sălgo Fortress Circuit. Quite possibly the last autumn hike.
This hike perfectly combines moderate effort with breathtaking landscapes and a fascinating journey into Transylvania’s medieval history.
Starting from Sibiel Monastery, the ascent quickly takes us to higher ground, where the deciduous forest thins out, giving way to the mountain plateaus that define this part of the Cindrel Mountains.
Here, autumn reigns supreme. The wide meadows are painted in soft bronze hues, dotted with the dark green of scattered firs and the golden shimmer of birches.
The highlight of the route is reaching Dealul Cetății (1099 m), where the ruins of Sălgo Fortress (locally known as “Cetatea Scurtă” or “Cetatea Orlat”) can be found. Although only foundations, defensive ditches, and wall remnants remain today, the strategic importance of this site is truly remarkable.

Children over 14 years old may participate if accompanied by a parent, who is responsible for evaluating whether the route’s difficulty is suitable for them.
TRANSPORTATION
Transport will be in private cars, with costs shared among participants. If you wish to join but do not have a car, after purchasing your ticket, you may contact the guide to be connected with others offering transport.
