Dear nature and hiking enthusiasts,
With the arrival of summer, we’re heading to the Făgăraș Mountains to enjoy the cool air and the unmatched beauty of Romania’s highest peaks.
This time, we’re returning to Valea Doamnei. Small waterfalls, glacial lakes, majestic ridges, possibly rhododendrons in bloom, and with a bit of luck, chamois and marmots will delight our eyes.
We’ll start at Bâlea Cascadă, hike up Valea Doamnei to Șaua Doamnei, then descend to Bâlea Lake. From there, we return via Valea Bâlii, passing along the Transfăgărășan and Bâlea Cascadă back to our starting point.
Before heading back to Sibiu, we’ll enjoy a refreshing drink or coffee by the banks of the Bâlea stream.
WHERE AND WHEN DO WE MEET?
Meeting time: 9:00 AM, in the parking lot next to KFC Șelimbăr, from where we will carpool to Gura Râului.
ROUTE INFORMATION
Distance: 12 km
Elevation gain: 1200 m
Trail difficulty: moderate to difficult (mainly due to the elevation gain. There are no exposed sections, but we might encounter some snow depending on weather conditions before the hike).
Hiking duration: 6 hours.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
hiking boots, season-appropriate hiking pants, a technical base layer made of synthetic or merino material, a fleece, a windproof or waterproof jacket, a cap or hat, and a backpack containing a spare layer of clothing, water, and food for a picnic.
TRANSPORTATION
Free transport available for up to 8 people, on a first come, first served basis. Seats in the minibus are allocated and confirmed after ticket purchase by sending a message to the guide.

– The route configuration and length will be adjusted according to weather conditions and the homogeneity/heterogeneity of the group.
– The organizer (guide) reserves the right to refuse participants who are not appropriately equipped or who have inadequate physical condition.
– Tours are conducted under safe conditions and with a minimum number of participants. The organizer reserves the right to reschedule or cancel tours without prior notice if these conditions are not met.
– Ticket refunds are only provided in case the organizer (guide) cancels the hike.

The “Anii Drumeției” Program is initiated and funded by the Sibiu County Council in collaboration with the Sibiu County Tourism Association. Its main purpose is to improve hiking infrastructure in the county and promote activities specific to ecotourism.
