Dear hikers,
On March 9, we will embark on a new excursion into the protected areas of Sibiu County. This time, we will explore the secrets of a protected area dedicated to the conservation of water birds, known as the Mândra Ponds Natural Reserve.
We will meet in the morning at 9:30 AM in the parking lot of Kaufland Veteranilor (opposite Hornbach Sibiu). After a brief introduction to the day’s program, we will drive to Mândra, where we will park our cars at the edge of the village near the lakes and begin our birdwatching hike.
We will walk along the embankment road of the Mândra fishponds. Our first birdwatching session will be done with the naked eye, binoculars, and a spotting scope. Along the way, we will discuss the protected areas of this region, including the Mândra Ponds Natural Reserve and the Natura 2000 Podișul Secașelor site.
Since the 19th century, the Mândra wetlands have been an important gathering point for rare aquatic bird species. Between 1990 and today, 161 bird species have been identified here, including 89 breeding species. Our tour guide will share fascinating facts about birds that stay in Romania during winter and those that return from migration in April to nest in this area.

We will meet in the morning at 9:30 AM in the Kaufland Veteranilor (Hornbach) parking lot.

Participants who do not have personal transportation to Mândra can contact the tour guide (Mihai Proca – 0720003332) to check if there are available seats in other participants’ cars.
This is a very easy hike, suitable for all ages, including children aged 4 and up.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Water/tea bottle (minimum 1L)
Snack for a break halfway through the hike
Binoculars (any size is welcome!)
COSTS
– 70 RON per adult participant
Children (4-14 years): 20 RON per participant
Discount for women: 50 RON per participant
The hike will take place with a minimum of 10 paying adult participants.
Children must be accompanied by an adult!

– The route configuration and length will be adjusted according to weather conditions and the homogeneity/heterogeneity of the group.
– The organizer (guide) reserves the right to refuse participants who are not appropriately equipped or who have inadequate physical condition.
– Tours are conducted under safe conditions and with a minimum number of participants. The organizer reserves the right to reschedule or cancel tours without prior notice if these conditions are not met.
– Ticket refunds are only provided in case the organizer (guide) cancels the hike.
