Marking: Yellow circle on a white background
Full route name: Village of Sibiel – Cetății Valley (Valea Cetăţii) - Cetatea Peak (La zid) - Calea nouă - Village of Sibiel
A loop route that carries hikes along the charming village of Sibiel, to the ruins of the old medieval fortress of Salgo on Cetăţii peak, at an altitude of 1,098 metres. According to a legend, the wagon road runs through dense forests to the bases of a fortress that was once built by giants. They also say that it is the place where Decebal hid a major part of his treasures, so that Traian’s soldiers would not find them and take them. The fact is that Salgo Fortress is one of the oldest settlements in the surroundings of Sibiu. Today, the only element that still stands is the foundation of the surveillance tower, which had a perfectly circular shape, as well as one of the walls. Also, the entrance gate and the defence moat can also be distinguished.
